Afternoon Tea vs High Tea

當很多人說著要到半島、文華「high tea」,我就聽得不自然,因為真的「high tea」並不「high」,而是舊日一些農家人的「早晚餐」。我們在酒店吃的應該是「afternoon tea」。

Afternoon Tea
Afternoon Tea源自1880年年代中期,當時的人於中午時分享用午餐,但晚餐往往在晚上八、九時,英國Bedford郡的公爵夫人於下午感到肚餓,所以享用一些麵包及茶,慢慢變成習慣,而且她開始邀請一些上流社會的女士和她一起享用茶點,所以享用Afternoon Tea成為了上流社會的潮流。Afternoon Tea的茶點包括酥餅、配奶油的英式鬆餅及三文治等。

High Tea
High Tea 是指一般平民百姓於晚上六時左右享用的晚餐,食用的有肉、魚、芝士及蛋等。
